Art Director

At Iridium Studios, you’d be joining a small but dedicated group of game developers with a passion for role-playing games and complex, highly character-driven stories. As art director, you’d be primarily responsible for creating and guiding the game’s cohesive art style, with a strong focus on character design and development. As cliche as it is, working well with others is paramount; work/life balance is emphasized, and we endeavor to ensure everyone contributes creatively.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a vision and art style for the characters of a fantastical RPG
  • Come up with unique, wild character designs based on written description
  • Ensure a consistent art style across character and environment art
  • Develop a Style Guide/Art Bible that defines the rules for the production of these characters
  • Work closely with the Character Art Lead to help shape the concepts through the full 3-D pipeline
  • Create key artwork of the characters that can be used in-game and for promotional materials
  • Further define each character’s personality through movement, animation, and VFX

Requirements:

  • Has brought at least one shipped game to market as art director, including pre-vis and implementation
  • Experienced character designer, understanding what makes characters unique, memorable, and visually appealing
  • Excellent communicator and manager, able to direct teams of people in order to accomplish complex goals
  • Is nice to people

Above and Beyond:

  • Has moderate to deep familiarity with Unreal Engine 4, including blueprints, skeleton structures, and animation pipeline tools
  • Significant familiarity with the 3-D pipeline, including modeling, retopology, and rigging

Compensation: $80,000 – $120,000 USD annual

This is a full-time position; while our office is located in Los Angeles, fully remote work is perfectly okay! We offer health care with both vision and dental, as well as 401k contributions. This project is funded for and will run for approximately 18 months, with an eye to continue on to even bigger and better beyond that!
